Duty-Free Shopping in Livigno: What's Worth Buying
Livigno is one of the few duty-free zones in Italy: because of its isolated position, it has historically been exempt from certain taxes, including VAT on several products. Today this status draws many visitors every year, looking not just for ski slopes but also for a good round of shopping in the town's pedestrian centre.
Spirits and wine
The selection is wide, with wines, spirits and liqueurs — including niche labels hard to find elsewhere — generally at more competitive prices than the rest of Italy.
Tobacco
Cigarettes and cigars are among the best-value products, with a noticeable saving compared to usual prices.
Perfumes and cosmetics
This is one of the categories where the price advantage is most noticeable, with high-end brands available at reduced prices — on average up to 20% less before tax.
Duty-free allowance limits
One practical thing to know before making a significant purchase: when re-entering Italy (or another EU country), duty-free allowance limits apply — indicatively 1 litre of spirits above 22°, 2 litres of alcohol below 22°, 4 litres of wine, 16 litres of beer and 200 cigarettes per person. Rules can change, so it's worth checking in advance if you're planning a substantial purchase.
